Unit 1 (C & D) Arts Events: Lindsey Stirling concert

Where do I start? This concert was amazing. Just, everything about it. Unfortunately I can't post any of my videos because the sound is completely messed up due to the amount of bass in the songs and my camera's mic being rubbish. But what I can do is link you to some of my favorite songs.

Zelda Medley
Shadows
The Lord of The Rings Medley
Crystallize
Moon Trance

Lindsey's mixture of classical violin and dubstep paired with her insane amount of energy is like caffeine for your ears/eyes. I first found out about her when my friend sent me a link to her Lord of The Rings Medley that I linked to above, I then found her Zelda Medley and kind of fell in love. Not only is her music gorgeous but the amount of work put into her videos is amazing. Especially the ones where she covers songs from movies or does medleys of soundtracks because she sorts out costumes and everything. Her most detailed costumes being the ones for her Skyrim and Assassins Creed III videos.
So naturally when I found out about her European tour I freaked and booked tickets with my friend almost straight away.

On Monday I finished college and dashed home to get changed and hop back on a train all the way up to Highbury and Islington where I crossed over the road to The Garage and found my friend Emma in the queue, she was insanely close to the front and the poor dear had been queuing there for hours already in the freezing cold. In about fourty five minutes we were inside.

I've never been to The Garage before, but I'd definitely go again, it's a gorgeous little venue, and by little I do mean little. It was just the right size, enough space to fit about three hundred people (at a bit of a squish) with a bar at the back, a cloak room and rather nice toilets.
I couldn't stop myself getting some merchandise, so on the pretext of a reward for the amount of work I've done recently I bought myself her CD and a small but gorgeous poster.

Her support act was a band called The Vibrant Sound who after opening with the theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had everyone in love. I who completely forgot about the possibility of a support act was pleasantly surprised.

The moment Lindsey came on her energy was through the roof, she played one song as a kind of intro then went over to the mic and welcomed everyone to the gig and threw some banter around before playing her next piece. The evening continued in much the same way, with her playing one or two songs -if they flowed into each other nicely enough- before going back to the mic and talking to everyone again. She has a really modest, bubbly demeanor that came across so obviously it was adorable.

Though most of her music is instrumental she did play one song where she sang, it was her own version of 'We Found Love' by Rihanna, but with the lyrics changed from 'we found love in a hopeless place' to 'we found love in a whole new place'. I must say, I was a little worried about her singing voice having heard her sing once before in her Lord of The Rings medley piece but she's greatly improved since then and this song fit her voice really nicely.

One thing that I really do have to mention are the dubstep elements of the songs. The sound was absolutely amazing, completely unparalleled. The kind of bass that makes the fabric of your clothes vibrate, but it was perfectly balanced with the violin as well, so neither one overpowered the other as I find is often the case in her videos and on her album, where the bass isn't nearly strong enough for my liking. But live it was brilliant!
In conclusion I would most definitely go again, it was nothing short of fabulous!
I'll leave you with some pictures that I took during the gig.
